🕯️🌼🔥♥️I’m honoured to be a speaker at the @witcheshouseofhistorynhealing #witchesrevival programme in August in Lancaster. Check out the website http://www.thewitcheshouse.org/ for the programme & ticket info. I hope to see some of you there! 🔥🫀👻💋 I’m flaring, which feels like being hit by a bus, like being a ghost. For days I’ve slept and sat in front of my laptop, obsessively watching Dior Cruise Couture runway shows. Stay with me here, I have meaning to mine in this obscene display of wealth...My newest Substack post about disability, subversive imagination and couture is free to read. (Wink with an L in the Bee Eye Oh.) Hello to many new allies and friends! (I dislike the follower-following dynamic and long for non-hierarchical ways of connecting online…) I’m Allyson Shaw, author of Ashes and Stones: A Scottish Journey in Search of Witches and Witness, out from @sceptrebooks @hodderbooks @pegasus_books . It’s a book about women hunted as witches in Scotland and the places in the landscape that mark their lives and their murders. It’s out in the UK now & will be released in North America on 3rd of October of this year. 🖤🌚🖤Tonight is a Black Moon, the third new moon between the equinox & solstice. It feels like a total reboot. How is your Black Moon going down? My recent Substack post is free to read- find the 🔗 in 🐝👀0 [image is a postcard depicting a solar eclipse as it would appear as if seen from the moon. Via @publicdomainrev ] My recent substack update is free to read-I’m thinking about Virginia Woolf’s advice and what it means to arrive at a long held dream. 🔗in 🐝👁️O. So chuffed to be in conversation with the force-of-nature that is @drkatelister aka @more_whores_of_yore on her #betwixtthesheets @historyhit podcast, which also happens to be one of my favourite podcasts (even when I’m not on it!) Listen now—find the 🔗in 🐝👁️ Oh! I know I should be resting but I also felt compelled to visit Marwick Head, an @rspb.scotland nature reserve on the mainland of #orkney Many elegant gannets, kittiwakes, and others I couldn’t identify. You can see the cliff cam, and the Kitchener monument looking like a massive dovecote. Kitchener was the Secretary of War during WWI and an avid sock knitter-he designed the difficult-but-useful grafted toe technique, named after him, which is a seamless finish to the toe of the sock, reducing chafing. Chafing during the wartime is no joke. This monument is not dedicated to his sock knitting but I’ve decided it could be. I have heard there are puffins at Birsay, but I’ll need more spoons to make the tidal crossing to see them. A ridiculously quick post as I recover from moving- I’m holed up in an Airbnb waiting to move into a new house in Kirkwall on Friday. I am so happy to be here, but also totally wiped out! 🌕🔥🐇🌿🌱🌊’Today is true Beltane, the halfway mark between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, and there’s a full moon eclipse to boot. Time for reckoning.
